POST AIMS FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT CACC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
NEW HAVEN, CT (April 17, 2009) - Post University will be going for its fourth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship, as the 2009 event will be played at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, DE, on April 20-21. Wilmington University will serve as the host. Post has won three straight championships, including a dominating performance at last year's event, when the Eagles won by 22 strokes after firing a combined 601 (303, 298).
In addition to winning the team title last season, Post sophomore David McGregor was the individual champion after shooting rounds of 76 and 67 (142) to win the event by nine strokes as a freshman. His second round 67 was the lowest of the tournament by five strokes. Junior Lee Wanklyn is also back for the Eagles after tying for fifth place with a two day total of 154 (78, 76) last season. Also returning is junior Jamie Blake.
Post, which is currently ranked second in the East Region, is coming off a team championship at the Peter King Memorial Tournament at Dowling College. The Eagles defeated the current top ranked team in the region, Adelphi University, by two strokes at the event.
Wilmington finished second at the 2008 CACC Tournament with a total of 623 (305, 318), while Goldey-Beacom was third with a 627 (313, 314) and Dominican was fourth after shooting a 628 (316, 312). The Lightning are currently ranked fourth in the region, while Wilmington is ninth.
Goldey-Beacom returns three of its five golfers who appeared in last season's championship, including sophomore Wed Hood and seniors Rob Hunt and Justin Grossman. Hood (79, 75) and Grossman (79, 75) tied for fifth at last season's tournament with totals of 154.
Wilmington welcomes back four of its five golfers from last season in seniors John Purple, Mark Murphy and Vince Nardo and junior Matt Hall. Nardo tied for fifth at last season's tournament after carding a 154 (75, 79).
