STAC Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 15-5 Triumph Over Felician

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team tallied ten first half goals en route to a 15-5 triumph over Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.

STAC improves to 2-2 on the year, while Felician slips to 1-3.

Ella Entress led the Spartans' offense with five goals, while Arianna Tribble scored three times and added an assist. Teammates Olivia Cerbo (2 goals, 3 assists), McKenzie Schlechtweg (2 goals, 2 assists), Katelyn Cerrato (2 goals, 1 assist) and Hailey Galison (1 goal, 1 assist) also added to the totals on the scoresheet for the maroon and gold. Goalie Lilah Magenheimer (W, 2-2) got the start between the pipes for STAC and stopped 3 of 8 shots faced to even her record on the season.

Meanwhile, Felician was led by Aly Amadruto, who tallied two goals, while Mackenzie Fox, Mary Gazaleh and Julia Ravazza added a goal apiece. Goalie Ilyanna Rivera (L, 1-3) made nine saves on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • STAC dominated first quarter action with six straight goals via Olivia Cerbo, Arianna Tribble, Ella Entress (2), Katelyn Cerrato and McKenzie Schlechtweg to lead 6-0 through the first 15 minutes of play.
  • The Spartans opened the second stanza with three more scores, as McKenzie Schlechtweg, Arianna Tribble and Ella Entress tallied back-to-back-to-back goals to put the hosts ahead by a commanding 9-0 margin.
  • Felician finally broke the shutout with just over four minutes remaining until halftime, with a goal from Aly Amadruto to make it a 9-1 game.
  • Olivia Cerbo closed the first half scoring with her second goal of the day to put the Spartans ahead 10-1 at the break.
  • When the teams returned to the field for the third quarter, STAC was able to quickly move to running time on a Hailey Galison tally to push the deficit to 10 at 11-1.
  • Ella Entress deposited her fourth of the match into the back of the cage midway through the frame to make it 12-1.
  • The visiting Golden Falcons answered back before the end of the quarter with a Julia Ravazza goal while shorthanded to close the margin back to 10, 12-2.
  • Aly Amadruto got Felician back under a ten goal deficit, thus stopping the clock, with an early fourth quarter tally to make it 12-3.
  • Mckenzie Fox cut the Golden Falcons disadvantage to eight on her first goal of the afternoon to make it 12-4, forcing STAC to call a timeout to settle the troops.
  • Arianna Tribble and Katelyn Cerrato brought the game back to running time with back-to-back goals to give STAC a 14-4 advantage.
  • The final Felician tally came via Mary Gazaleh with a minute to play to push the score to 14-5.
  • Ella Entress ended things with her fifth goal of the day to wind down the clock and give STAC a 15-5 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • STAC outshot Felician 30-12 (24-8 on goal) for the game.
  • Ella Entress tallied a game-high nine shots, with eight going on net for St. Thomas Aquinas.
  • Hailey Galison gathered 10 of the Spartans 33 ground balls and also caused five turnovers.
  • STAC won 14 of 22 draw controls on the afternoon, with Katelyn Cerrato winning seven and Hailey Galison five.
