Softball: Ravens Fall to Holy Family Tigers, 4-2

MELBOURNE, FL.  (3/8/24) - The Franklin Pierce softball team lost their third straight game after falling to the winless Holy Family Tigers 4-2 on Friday. 

Score: Franklin Pierce 2, Holy Family 4. 
Records: Franklin Pierce 3-3 (0-0 NE10), Holy Family 1-12 (0-0 CACC) 
Location: Space Coast Spring Games, Blue Easton Field, Melbourne, FL. 
Date: March 8th, 2024 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The scoring started in the 3rd inning when Holy Family junior catcher Rylee Hobel hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring freshman infielder Jaden Kelly, and giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  
  • The Ravens responded in the bottom of the 4th Inning thanks to a solo home run by senior catcher Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, MA). The deep ball marked Cangiano's second home run of the season, tying the game up 1-1. 
  • The Tigers were quick to take their lead back as they scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th. Junior catcher Alexis Letizia hit an RBI single to put the Tigers back in front. Then the Tigers scored an unearned run off a fielder's choice hit from junior 1st baseman Sam Ciasullo, making it 3-1. 
  • The Ravens cut the Tigers' lead to 1 in the bottom of the 5th Inning thanks to a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of senior 3rd baseman Susannah Campos (Lemoore, CA), scoring freshman infielder Danielle Belliveau (Baldwinville, MA) to make it 3-2. 
  • The Tigers extended their lead in the top of the 7th, however, as junior 1st baseman Sam Ciasullo hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring junior catcher Rylee Hobel. The Tigers held on to their 4-2 lead for the win. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Both teams tallied 6 hits in the contest, however, the Tigers got more runners on base thanks to 5 walks in the game. The Ravens only had 1 walk.  
  • The Ravens once again struggled with strikeouts as 6 batters took a K. The Tigers only struck out once.  
  • Ravens' senior pitcher Samantha Sylvester (Morris, CT) pitched all seven innings. She gave up 6 hits, 4 runs, 5 walks, and struck out 1 batter in the loss. 
  • Tigers' freshman pitcher Kinsley Hall picked up her first collegiate win, pitching all 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and striking out 6 batters.
