BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The men's soccer team held suffered a 6-2 setback Wednesday evening under the lights at Foley Field to Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC). The non-conference loss left Bloomfield with a 1-2 overall record while the Spartans improved to 2-0-2 for the season.

Matiss Zegele who was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Honor Roll this week for his two-goal and one-assists performance on Sunday continued his fiery offensive play with an equalizer goal in the 20th minute after the visitors had taken an early 1-0 lead. Cristian Marroquin left a beautiful pass for Zegele that the Latvia native pushed past the STAC keeper. The Spartans went up again in the 34th minute but the Bears drew even once more, netting a ball just before the end of the half, this time off the foot of Raynaldo St Bernard. Arsenios Demetriou assisted on the Bernard goal that sent the teams into the break knotted at 2-2.

The Spartans stepped up the attack in the 2nd frame as they controlled possession of the ball on the pitch and put up four unanswered goals to seal the regional victory. STAC outshot the Bears, 15-1 in the final half as Jomar Vizcaino recorded 7 saves for the match and picked up the loss in forty-five minutes of work. His counterpart, Matthew Brun recorded five saves in the opening half.  

Bloomfield will look to regroup when they hit the road for their next showdown on Saturday, September 9th. The non-conference match against East Stroudsburg University is scheduled for 7:00 pm with live stats and video links available.
