TAMPA, Fla. – Opening the 2024 season with a trip to the Sunshine State, the University of Bridgeport's softball team was swept by third-ranked Tampa in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Purple Knights dropped a 7-1 contest in the opener before falling, 2-0, in the finale.
Facing one of the toughest lineups that they will see this year, it was a pair of solid pitching performances that highlighted Saturday's action for UB.
Kaite Burawski returned to the circle and posted a solid outing in the first game of the day. The senior right-hander allowed just three earned runs across a complete-game six innings. She finished with six strikeouts while walking a pair.
Sophomore Vise Zarate followed with an even more impressive stat line in Game Two. The California native yielded just two runs in six innings with five strikeouts.
Offensively, senior Grace Derita led the way with a hit in each game and a run scored while Madison D'Amato recorded an RBI single in the first contest.
