NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The weather didn't cooperate on Saturday and Sunday for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament as the seventh and deciding game could never get underway at Asbury Field, canceling the end of the CACC Tournament.

Since the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights and Wilmington University softball teams each had a loss, the Wildcats were crowned the victors by being the highest seed remaining in the tournament.

It is the fifth CACC Tournament Championship in program history, going back-to-back for the first time, as they have now raised the trophy in 2014, 2016, 2019, 2023, and 2024.

The Wildcats were on the other end of a similar situation in 2022, as the Wildcats fought back out of the loser's bracket to reach the final against Georgian Court, but then the rains came, and the rest of the tournament could not be played. Georgian Court was awarded the trophy in 2022.

The Wildcats had six student-athletes named to the All-CACC Tournament Team for their tremendous play through the five games. Taylor Gillis was named All-Tournament Team and the Tournament MVP while being joined by Sam Freeland, Sara Miller, Julia Thuer, Gabriella Saucedo, and Kylee Gunkel on the All-Tournament Team.

The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled to be aired on NCAA.com on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. That's where the Wildcats will determine their seed and destination for the NCAA East Regional Tournament next week.
