PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Bears women's soccer team hit the road for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) battle and suffered a, 3-2 setback against Chestnut Hill College. Bloomfield scored two goals in the 2nd half but couldn't complete the comeback, falling to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference matches.
The Griffins (2-1, 1-0 CACC) went up early in the contest, scoring in the second minute of play off of Bears keeper, Mia Phillip. The home team added another goal at the 31:32 minute-mark to go into the halftime intermission up, 2-0. Chestnut Hill outshot the visitors, 15-1 in the opening period.
The Griffins added a 2nd half goal in the sixty-third minute before the Bloomfield offense found a response. Defender, Alexis Hack scored her first goal of the season and 2nd of her career on a feed from Marcela Banuelos at 65:45. Less than four minutes later, the Bears drew even closer with a score off the foot of Leigha Bradding-Butler that made it, 3-2 with over twenty minutes left to play. The visitors couldn't find the equalizer though and the Griffins held on for the CACC victory.
Phillip finished the day with 13 saves, the most in one game throughout her career, and Bloomfield ended with five shots on goal, scoring on two of them. Bradding-Butler now leads the team with three goals on the season.
The Bears get another crack at CACC play on Tuesday when they host Caldwell University at Foley Field. The September 19th battle is set for a 7:00 pm start under the lights.
