Amelie Gamache Scores 100th Goal as Wildcats Handle Shippensburg, 16-3

NEWARK, Del. - - Amelie Gamache is nearing the Wilmington University women's lacrosse Top 10 in goals scored for a career, reaching the 100-goal milestone on Saturday as the Wildcats defeated Shippensburg, 16-3, at the WU Athletics Complex.

It was the first time in program history that the Wildcats (5-1) defeated Shippensburg (1-2), going 0-3 in three prior attempts. Amelie Gamache now has 100 career goals and 95 career assists, nearing the 200-point milestone as well.

On Saturday, the Wildcats used a 10-goal first quarter to seize momentum and take control. The first quarter was all Wilmington, outshooting the Raiders, 14-1, while controlling more draws, 8-3, Ella Royer scored three goals and added an assist in the quarter while Makenzie Stritzinger scored three goals as well. Alea Javorowsky dished out three assists while scoring a goal and Amelie Gamache, Anastasia Giannoulis, and Riley McQuaide all scored single goals in the quarter.

Makenzie Stritzinger added two more in the second quarter to lead the team with five goals in the game while Amelie Gamache had a goal and an assist. Ale Javorowsky picked up two more assists before the half, as the Wildcats led 13-0 at the break.

Shippensburg got on the board with the first goal of the third quarter, but the Wildcats held Shippensburg silent the rest of the frame. Lauren Gresham scored with 3:10 to play and Amelie Gamache scored her 100th career goal with 1:45 to play in the third to give the Wildcats a 15-1 lead.

Stritzinger's five first half goals led the Wildcats for the game while Alea Javorowsky led the Wildcats with eight points, scoring once while dishing out seven assists. Ella Royer finished with four goals and an assist while Amelie Gamache scored three goals and added an assist. Gamache also had seven draws and four caused turnovers to lead the team. Katie Vindigni made five saves in the contest for the win.

The Wildcats have three games next week, starting with a trip to Western Maryland on Tuesday to take on Frostburg State. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
