Women’s Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller Versus Jefferson
UB women’s volleyball team were victorious against Jefferson University, going the distance to win in five sets.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team bested the Jefferson University Rams Saturday night in dramatic fashion. The Purple Knights won the odd numbered set, one three and five by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 15-9 whilst the rams won set two and four by scores o0f 25-23 and 25-19 respectively. The win improves UB's season record to 18-6 overall and 11-1 in conference clashes.
Saturday night at the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium was the stage for the two top women's volleyball teams in the CACC. The evening's action did not disappoint.
The highlight of the night for the Purple Knights was in the third set, when trailing 23-18, UB went on a seven-point unanswered run to take the set by a score of 25-23. This was closely followed by another streak, this time six points in the fifth set when the matched was tied at 9-9 to take the match final set and match 15-9.
The Bridgeport attack was led by Hailey Jessen (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and her 24 kills, hitting .322 and adding in four digs.
Paola Hernandez (Jr., Bayamon, P.R.) was the one of two Purple Knights to hit double digits in two categories, accruing 19 digs and 12 kills while adding three service aces.
Setter Jaden Drollinger (Jr., Queens Creek, Az.) was the second member with a double-double as she supplied 51 assists, 13 digs. She was just two kills away from the triple-double as she notched eight kills.
Sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) registered 11 kills while Datari Mathis (Grad., Wethersfield, Conn.) tallied 10 and added four digs.
Freshman libero Grace Presswood (S. Dennis, Mass.) continuously put her body on the line and led the Purple Knights defense with 22 digs and added five assists in attack.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will be in action on Tuesday, October 31st as they make the short drive to Waterbury, Conn. to take on the Post University Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
