WEST HAVEN, Conn. – In the first of two non-conference doubleheaders this week, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned two wins at New Haven on Monday afternoon. The victories push UB's record to 22-20 this season (17-5, CACC).
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 3, New Haven 1
The Purple Knights put all three of their runs across in the first inning while Kaite Burawski tossed another complete-game gem.
UB's first frame featured a two-RBI double from Samantha Schiebe and an RBI double by Sydnee Perreault. Angela Oros and Mya Jones each scored runs on Schiebe's two-bagger courtesy of a single and a walk.
Immediately holding a 3-0 edge, Burawski dominated yet again in the circle. The left-hander yielded just one run on four hits across seven innings. She finished the contest with seven strikeouts.
Burawski's sensational season is now comprised of a 2.82 ERA in 139.0 innings pitched. She continues to rank second in the CACC in total strikeouts (183).
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 11, New Haven 1 (Five Innings)
Riding the momentum from the opener, UB erupted for seven runs in the first inning of the finale. The Purple Knights needed just five hits to pile up their 11 runs in the game.
Perreault was once again at the forefront as she hammered a first-inning grand slam. She finished the two games 3-for-6 with five RBIs, two runs and a walk.
UB's first-inning barrage also featured a two-RBI single from Madison D'Amato after Bridgeport had batted through their order.
After the seven-run first, Jones provided an RBI single in the fourth while Oros and Olivia Young initiated bases-loaded walks in the fifth.
In the circle, Vise Zarate tossed her second straight five-inning one-hitter. She is now holding a 3.49 ERA across 110.1 innings pitched this season.
