Volleyball Splits with Jefferson and Davis & Elkins

INDIANA, PA - The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team finished their weekend at Indiana o University of Pennsylvania on Saturday with two games.

 The Saints (3-9, 0-0 ECC) lost their first match of the day to Jefferson University 3-1. DYU then bounced back to defeat Davis & Elkins College 3-0 to finish out the tournament.
D'Youville University 1 vs Jefferson University – Game One (18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 16-25)
First Set
The Rams took the early lead against the Saints in their first set of the day. Giselle Ramirez (Miami, Fla. / School for Advanced Studies) and Lauren Scully (Royal Palm Beach, Fla. / Wellington) had the first two kills for the Saints to put them on the board with a score of 4-2. The Saints fought hard throughout the set but were not able to take the lead and the Rams would take the first set 25-18.

Second Set
The Saints jumped out to an early 3-0 lead courtesy of two service aces from Samantha Killane (Vero beach, Fla. / Lincoln Park Academy) and a kill from Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y.). The Rams came back to tie it at three, but Mitha Hatwar (Powell, Ohio / Oletangy Liberty) provided the kill that put the Saints back on top. The lead went back and forth, but the Rams eventually held it for the remainder of the set. O'Brien had a kill to bring the Saints within one at 22-21, but the Rams would go on to score the next three and win 25-21.

Third Set
The Saint again jumped out to the early lead going up 5-0 on the Rams. The Rams held the lead at 11-10 and the Saints responded with a six-point run to go up 16-10. The Rams again tied the game at 23, but back-to-back kills from O'Brien gave the Saints a 25-23 win to keep the match going.

Fourth Set
Matchplay in the fourth set started fairly even with the lead being exchanged between the Saints and Rams. The Rams went on a six-point run and went on to win the fourth set 25-16.

Madeline O'Brien had a career high 23 kills in the match against Jefferson.

First Set
Matchplay started even in the Saints first set against the Senators. A kill from Giselle Ramirez put the Saints at a 10-9 lead and from there, the Saints would go on a seven-point run to jump ahead 17-9. The Saints continued to lead and consecutive kills from Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash. / Bainbridge), Emily Fischer (Grand Island, N.Y. / Mount St Mary Academy), and Eve Musielak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) would give the Saints a 25-12 win in set one.
 
Second Set
Again, the Saints started out on top in set two jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Senators fought back, but the Saints did not give up the lead. The Saints expanded their lead after going on a five-point run to make the score 19-11 and went on to win 25-19.

Third Set
The Saints started behind for the first time in the match when the Senators jumped out to a 4-0 lead. After steadily fighting back, the Saints went on a five-point run to bring them within two. When the Senators scored to put the set at 19-16, the Saints turned up the heat and scored nine consecutive points to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Mitha Hatwar had a career high 35 assists against Davis & Elkins College.

The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team has officially finished tournament play and now head into ECC Conference play. The Saints are set to face off with Mercy College on the road next Saturday, September 23rd at 12:00 pm and will then play Queens College on Sunday, September 24th at 12:00pm.
