Piromalli earns two wins Sunday in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Bentley softball pitching staff stifled opposing hitters as the Falcons pulled off two shutout victories in Florida Sunday.

 

Bentley 2, Caldwell 0

Riley Piromalli tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Bentley to a 2-0 win over Caldwell in the first game Sunday. Piromalli allowed only three hits and one walk during her stellar outing. She pitched her win into five one-two-three innings during the game.

The Falcons scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Kylee Amato led off with a walk. She moved to second base on a sac bunt by Katie Welch, and then reached third base on a single by Jordan Krause. Hailey Feiler delivered a sac fly to plate Amato.

Amato was on the other end of a run-scoring play in the fifth inning, smacking an RBI single to right field that allowed Breelin McDougal to score.

Feiler put forth a multiple-hit effort, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

 

Bentley 1, Slippery Rock 0

Payton Doiron and Piromalli combined to allow just five hits in a 1-0 shutout victory over Slippery Rock. Doiron worked five innings in her start, and Piromalli earned her second win of the day by pitching two innings in relief.

Bentley scored the game's only run in the sixth inning. Krause led off by reaching on an error, and she moved into scoring position on a sac bunt by Feiler. Two batters later, Welch delivered an RBI single.

The Falcons next take on Shepherd and St. Thomas Aquinas Monday, March 11.
