Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past STAC, 15-7
A balanced effort for the Purple Knights featured seven different goal-scorers, including five players putting in multiple tallies.
SPARKILL, N.Y. – Fueled by their best-ever offensive performance, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team rattled off a 15-7 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The victory pushes the Purple Knights' record to 1-2 this season.
A dominant second quarter served as the catalyst for UB. In fact, the Purple Knights put together a 9-1 run from 9:03 in the first quarter to halftime to take a 10-4 lead into the break.
Leading by five after three quarters, Bridgeport iced the game away with another 4-1 stretch in the fourth.
It was a balanced effort for the Purple Knights as they had seven different goal-scorers, including five players putting in multiple tallies.
Senior Dewey Schoenfelder was especially impressive. The Maryland native piled up a game-high four goals and four assists, in addition to grabbing five ground balls.
Aidan Kirkpatrick neared Schoenfelder in the points department. The junior registered three goals and two assists.
Following Kirkpatrick and Schoenfelder, it was two goals apiece from James Napoli, Ashton Lankowski and Daniel Orebiyi that supplemented the offense.
On the defensive side of things, senior goalkeeper Peter Nazario was stellar in between the pipes. The Long Island native tallied 16 saves en route to his second career win.
Collectively, the Purple Knights earned a 32-26 advantage in ground balls and an 8-4 margin in caused turnovers.
Speaking of ground balls, Connor Cullen led UB in that category with six.
