Bridgeport Falls To Franklin Pierce In Road Loss
The Purple Knights tasted defeat in their Tuesday afternoon away game against the Ravens.
Rindge, N.H. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell just short of the Franklin University Ravens on Tuesday afternoon, losing 50-58. The Purple Knights kept the game tight, outscoring the Raven 21-15 from three-point range and tallying 18 second chance points, 12 better than Franklin Pierce's six. This ultimately was not enough and the non-conference loss drops UB's overall season record to 2-9.
Bridgeport started the game well, shooting 50% from the floor in the first quarter and taking a four-point lead after 10 minutes. The second quarter was tighter with that shooting efficiency dropping to 35.7% yet still ahead of the Ravens 30.8% from the floor and sending UB to the locker room with a 25-22 lead.
Franklin Pierce came out the hotter of the two teams, outscoring Bridgeport 17-7 in the third quarter and never looked back, finishing the game 58-50 victors.
The Purple Knights were led into battle by Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) with her 14 points, seven rebounds, two steals, two blocks and two assists.
Harmony Earth-Wiley (Fr., Troy, Mich.) registered nine points as she went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and adding three rebounds, one block and an assist.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ripped down a game-high eight rebounds in addition to seven points, three steals and one block.
Samirah Akinwunmi (Sr., Elmont, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points and one rebound off the bench.
Up next, UB will get back into conference action as they host CACC opponent Caldwell University on Saturday, December 30th for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
