Purple Knights Fall To Regionally Ranked Mavericks Away From Home
Women’s basketball lost a low scoring affair on the road Tuesday evening to East Region No. 7 Mercy University.
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team were defeated by the number seven Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) East Region Mercy University Mavericks. A strong first half performance in the Tuesday night tipoff saw the Purple Knights level with the Mavericks at halftime, but Mercy would outscore UB by eight points down the final 20 minutes to win the game 51-43. The non-conference loss drops Bridgeport's overall season record to 1-3.
The Purple Knights started well and enjoyed a more efficient shooting percentage from the floor; 39.0%, compared to Mercy's 28.1%. The Mavericks however outscored UB 15-0 from three-point territory with Bridgeport taking only two shots from beyond the arc all game.
The Purple Knights interior attack was led by Stephanie McBride (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) and her 12 points as she shot 5-of-8 from the floor along with a team-high seven rebounds, four blocks and one steal.
Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) contributed 12 points, six rebounds, along with a team-leading four steals and two blocks.
Senior guard Tariah Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 10 points in addition to her team-best four assists, four rebounds and one steal.
Up next, UB will be back in action on Sunday, November 26th at 2:00 p.m. as they travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights.
