Purple Knights Fall To Franklin Pierce In Non-Conference Contest
Women’s Basketball were defeated Sunday afternoon in New York 71-58.
Staten Island, N.Y. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell short against the Franklin Pierce University Ravens at the College of Staten Island. Bridgeport was edged by 13 points, losing by a final score of 71-58. The non-conference loss drops UB's season record to 0-2 overall.
The Purple Knights played their second game in as many days at the College of Staten Island on Sunday afternoon. UB's bench outscored the Ravens 20-15 but that advantage couldn't overcome the 21 points that Franklin Pierce scored from the free throw line.
Bridgeport's offense was led by Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 10 points with eight rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.
Sophomore Niyah Whitten (Bloomfield, N.J.) chipped in nine points with four rebounds and two assists.
Harmony Earth-Wiley (Fr., Troy, MI) led the bench scoring with nine points, adding two rebounds, one block and one assist while Senior Ayanna Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) supplied eight points, four rebounds, one block and one assist.
Up next, Bridgeport will play their home opener against Molloy University on Wednesday, November 15th with tipoff set for 5:00 p.m.
