Women’s Volleyball Falls In Five Sets Against Pace University
The Purple Knights held strong for much of the match, forcing the game to go the distance, but coming up short in the deciding set.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women’s volleyball team lost in 5 sets to Pace University Saturday afternoon at home. The 3-2 non-conference loss drops UB’s season record to 16-6 overall.
The Purple Knights won the opening set 25-20 before dropping sets two and three by scores of 19-25 and 25-27 respectively. UB would force the fifth set after taking the fourth 25-23. Pace would win the final set 15-10 to take the match.
The Purple Knights attack was led by Freshman Haily Jessen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) with 21 kills. She was joined by classmate Grace Presswood (S. Dennis, Mass.) and Grad. Datari Mathis (Wethersfield, Conn.) with double digit kills.
Presswood had 11 kills as well as 18 digs for her double-double outing. Mathis registered 10 kills along with one solo and two assisted blocks.
UB setter Jaden Drollinger (Jr., Queens Creek, Az.) led the team with 20 digs on top of her 47 assists and five kills.
The Purple Knights defense held strong with four members in double digit digs. Presswood and Drollinger were accompanied by Ella Young (Fr., Commerce City, Colo.) and Lucia Tomiello (So., Caltrano, Italy) in this endeavor.
Tomiello accumulated 13 digs while adding eight kills and three total blocks. Young amassed 12 digs in defense and led the team with four aces.
Up next, the UB women’s volleyball team will play next on Wednesday, October 25th at home against the Bloomfield College Bears. The CACC matchup is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
