Wilmington, Del.-A goal by University of Bridgeport freshman Joao Miranda (Bridgeport, Conn.) with just five minutes to play in the match off an assist from junior Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) lifted the Purple Knights into a 2-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer draw with the host Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. With the deadlock, Bridgeport is now 5-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play. The Wildcats are now 5-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the CACC.
Wilmington got on the board quickly in Saturday's clash finding the back of the net just 3:11 into play.
The Wildcats held that 1-0 advantage into the second half until UB's Lucas Mah (So., Basel, Switzerland) scored his first goal of 2023 in the 61st minute to tie the contest at 1-1.
Twenty minutes later, Wilmington's Troy Paul scored his second goal of the afternoon to give the host a 2-1 lead before Miranda's second goal of the season salvaged a point the visitors with exactly five minutes to play.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Hugo Franceschi (Toulouse, France) made two saves on the day.
The Purple Knights finished the match with a 13-9 advantage in shots, and Wilmington took five corners to three for UB.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team continues its three-match road swing Wednesday night at Bloomfield College. CACC action in Garden State begins at 7:00 p.m.
