WOMEN'S SOCCER RALLY TO DEFEAT GRIFFINS ON SENIOR DAY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/28/23) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team earned a come from behind victory over the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this afternoon in a CACC match up on Sister Mary Eileen O'Brien Field and Senior Day.
The Lady Chargers scored four unanswered goals to solidify the win and improve to 5-6-3 overall on the season and 4-3-3 in conference play. CHC falls to 5-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the CACC after the loss.
Before today's game, the team recognized their five players with a pregame ceremony. Lauren Drummond (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada), Olivia Gouldsbury (New Milford, N.J.), Nicole Conway (Monroe, N.Y.), Stella Koster (Saarbruecken, Germany), and Olivia Ferris (Staten Island, N.Y.) were recognized during the pregame ceremony.
Chestnut Hill jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 52 seconds into the game after Elisabeth Stokes connected for the first goal of the game. Antonia Linus recorded an assist on the goal.
Later in the first half, Stokes netted her second of the game at 25:11 to extend the lead to 2-0.
Dominican got on the board late in the first half when Gouldsbury scored to cut the deficit in half. Sabine Sorensen (Ballerup, Denmark) picked up her first assist on the day.
Sorensen tied the game early in the second half after taking a pass by Isabella Wysocki (Rahway, N.J.) who picked up the assist. DU took the lead after a perfect pass from Sorensen connected with senior captain Ferris for the header goal and a 3-2 lead.
Dominican extended the lead to 4-2 at the 76:38 mark when Sorensen capped off a three-assist day by connecting with Koster who buried the Lady Chargers' fourth goal.
Senior goalkeeper Drummond entered the game after an injury and played a solid 78:43. Drummond made seven saves and picked up the win.
The Lady Chargers return to action next Tuesday when they travel to the University of Bridgeport for the 2023 regular season finale.
