Women's Lacrosse Earns OT Win at Barton, 14-13

WILSON, N.C. – Beginning the 2024 campaign in North Carolina, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team earned a thrilling 14-13 overtime win at Barton College on Tuesday night.
Graduate student Danielle Kreitler served as the hero for UB, scoring the game-winning goal with 44 seconds left in the first overtime. Sophomore Tara Dimaio earned the assist on the play to finish the game with a team-best three helpers.
Trailing 11-7 after three quarters, the Purple Knights rattled off a 6-2 stretch in the fourth quarter to force overtime. UB's run featured two goals in the final 2:26 of regulation.
It was a sensational opener by Max McDermott that led the UB offense. The Guilford, Conn. native rattled off a game-high six goals, including the final two tallies of the fourth quarter.
In addition to Kreitler and McDermott, two other Purple Knights notched goals in the win. Tereza Kreuzova registered a hat trick while Emily Stuart finished with two goals and two assists.
Kreuzova also led UB with six draw controls while Stuart chipped in five and Kreitler added four.
Junior goalkeeper Jacklyn Mellia kept Bridgeport in the game throughout, finishing with 14 stops in nearly 63 minutes of action.
