Bloomfield Takes CACC Cross Divisional Matchup From Women’s Basketball

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - - A quick start for Bloomfield led to an 85-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate conference cross divisional victory over the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon inside The Gym.

The Bears (5-14, 3-7 CACC) turned 23 Wilmington (1-17, 0-8 CACC) turnovers into 25 points at the other end while also dominating the paint against the Wildcats, 38-20.

The Bears started the game by scoring 15 of the first 16 points, taking a 15-1 lead with 3:58 left in the first quarter. Daja Claiborne scored the Wildcats' first bucket with 3:34 to play and then had the final points of the quarter for the Wildcats with another jumper, but the Bears won the frame, 20-5.

Trinity Brittingham scored six consecutive points for the Wildcats early in the second quarter and then Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer and the Wildcats were inside single digits, 23-14, with 7:11 to play in the half. Brittingham later hit another three-pointer to bring the Wildcats to within eight, but the Bears used a 9-2 run of their own to extend the lead back out to 34-19, with 2:58 to play. They also used an 8-2 run over the final 2:16 of the half to take a 42-25 lead into the break.

Another 8-0 run midway through the third quarter allowed the Bears to take a 60-36 lead and then used a 10-0 run midway through the fourth to put the game out of reach, 79-51, with 2:56 to play.

Daja Claiborne led the Wildcats with 16 points and a career high 19 rebounds, shooting 6-of-13 from the floor. Aniyah Bond and Trinity Brittingham each finished with nine points. Amber Washington led the team with four assists while Azayah Garrison had two steals.

The Wildcats complete their season series with Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, traveling to Philadelphia for a 6:00 p.m. opening tip.
