Men's Basketball Moves To 2-0 On The Season With A 90-75 Win Over Southern Connecticut State
Five Players Led By Matt Turner's 25 Points Reach Double-Digit Scoring On Sunday For UB
Bridgeport, Conn.-Five players reached double-digit scoring on Sunday afternoon, as the UB men's basketball team raised its season record to 2-0 with a 90-75 win over local rival the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in the final game of the season-opening 2022 University of Bridgeport Men's Basketball Crossover Classic. SCSU opens its 2022-23 at 0-2.
Newcomer Matt Turner (Grad., Trumbull, Conn.) led the Purple Knights in scoring for the second straight contest pouring in a game-high 25 points. Turner was hot from the floor connecting on 8-of-12 shots, including going 3-of-4 from behind the three-point line. He was also a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.
Senior Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.) was next on the UB scoring list on Sunday with 14 points.
Classmate Malcolm Moye (Windsor, Conn.) chipped in 13 points for the winners, and juniors Joshua Dennis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) rounded out the quintet of players in double figures for the Purple Knights, as the each had 11 points. Collins led Bridgeport in rebounding on the afternoon grabbing six boards. Moye had a fine game on defense on Sunday blocking four shots and bringing down four rebounds.
UB led, 43-38, at the halftime break, and outscored the Owls, 47-37, over the final 20 minutes of action
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will look to go 3-0 in the early going of the 2022-23 season when they head to Springfield, Massachusetts onto take on the American International College Yellow Jackets.
