Wildcats Jump to Fourth Place With 2-0 Victory at Felician

NUTLEY, N.J. - - A goal in each half propelled the Wilmington University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Felician in a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday night at Nutley High School.

With the win, the Wildcats jumped up to fourth overall in the CACC standings with one game to play in the regular season. The top four seeds host a CACC Tournament First Round contest. The Wildcats are now 7-5-4 overall and 5-3-2 in the CACC. The Wildcats face Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday afternoon in the regular season finale and can secure a home game in the postseason with a victory.  

On Saturday night, the Wildcats had back-to-back chances in the ninth minute, but Caesar Knapp's shot was saved and Sora Noda's follow up sailed high. Charlie Phillips made his first save of the night in the 18th minute and then just two minutes later, the Wildcats got on the board. Yohan Kim fed Malthe Hannesbo who found the back of the net 19:46 into the match to give the visiting Wildcats the 1-0 lead.

Phillips was called on to make one more save in the first half and Diego Ramirez put a shot on goal in the final seconds of the half, but the Wildcats went into the break leading 1-0.

Yarek Carnegie gave the Wildcats an insurance goal late in the second half, finishing off a play from Troy Paul in the 80th minute for his second goal of the year.

The Wildcats finished the game leading in shots, 12-9, including shots on goal, 6-4. Felician held the advantage in corners, 3-0. Phillips made four saves for his third shutout of the season.

The Wildcats and Lightning are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start on Wednesday, November 1, at Goldey-Beacom.
