UDC Men's Lacrosse Defeats Holy Family En Route to First Victory of the Season

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team defeated Holy Family University 13-12, Friday evening at the Georgetown University Cooper Field. This marks the Firebirds first win under Head Coach Matthew Marrett and Assistant Coach Stevens Cadet.

Seven different Firebirds got on the scoreboard in today's match up. Dylan Donaldson led the way with four goals, Jordan Schemm, Jahi Guise and Zakai Robinson each had two and Maxwell Hansberry, Julian Schemm and Kalam Howlett added one each. Ignacio Pericet forced a game-high six caused turnovers and Najee Wilson made a game-high 15 saves. 

UDC turned up the heat in the opening two quarters, despite the Tigers striking first, they went on to outscore them 9-2 before heading into half-time. 

HFU however, refused to go down without a fight as they mounted a comeback, outscoring the Firebirds 10-4 in the last two quarters. UDC was able to hold the Tigers off in the end, earning their first win of the season in their home opener.

The Firebirds had the advantage in a couple of team statistics including ground balls (52-44), shots (42-37)and forced turnovers (30-22). Holy Family won 19 of 29 face-off's compared to UDC's 10 and had a better percentage in clears (21-25) compared to UDC (15-22).

Up next, UDC (1-4) will head to Chestnut Hill on March 19th, with a tip-off time of 7:00pm.
