BRADDING-BUTLER FUELS BEARS HOME OPENER VICTORY, 2-1 OVER LINCOLN

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The women's soccer team played their home opener under the lights of historic Foley Field Wednesday evening and clawed out a, 2-1 victory over Lincoln University. The non-conference win featured two goals from junior, Leigha Bradding-Butler and evened the Bears record at 1-1 for the season. The win was also the first for newly named head coach, Poppy Bignell.

Bradding-Butler scored her first goal of the season in the fifteenth minute off a pass from Alexis Schneider that she fired from thirty yards out past the Lincoln goalkeeper. Just before the end of the opening half, Bradding-Butler cut off a pass from the visitors' keeper and launched another shot over the goalie's head with thirty-five seconds on the clock to put the Bears up, 2-0.

Bloomfield enjoyed nine shots on goal (SOG) in the first half and finished the game with a 13-7 advantage in SOGs over the Lions. Starting keep, Mia Phillip, made only one save in forty-five minutes of action thanks to the Bloomfield defenders holding the visitors at bay.

Lincoln managed a goal in the 79th minute off of Arielle O'Neal who played the entire 2nd half and recorded 4 saves. The Bears defense continued to hold strong and kept the visitors from finding the equalizer down the stretch.

Next up for Bloomfield will be their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Saturday, September 16. The Bears will travel to Philadelphia to face the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College at 1:00 pm.
