Baseball: Ravens Fall in Extra Innings to Post, 3-1

FLUSHING, N.Y (3/1/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce baseball team lost to Post University 3-1 in extra innings Friday afternoon to drop to 2-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Franklin Pierce opened the scoring in the fourth inning when junior transfer infielder Kiobel Lugo (Boston, MA) hit an RBI double, scoring sophomore transfer first baseman Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, MA). Post tied the game at one in the top of the ninth when senior outfielder Michael Pavelchak singled through the right side and freshman outfielder Joshua Chen advanced to third, then scored on a fielding error.

• In the top of the eleventh, graduate transfer outfielder DJ Caron had a two RBI double, scoring Pavelchak and senior outfielder Danny Gill to make it 3-1 Post. Franklin Pierce left the bases juiced in the bottom of the eleventh and fell to Post 3-1.

• DeAndrade and Lugo both went two for four against the Eagles.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Graduate pitcher Hunter Reynolds (Marlborough, MA) got his first start of the season. He pitched four scoreless innings, walked four, and struck out three. Freshman pitcher Niklas Pavia (Bolton, MA) came in relief, pitched three scoreless innings, walked two, and struck out one batter.

• Junior pitcher Stephen Bangs (Stoughton, MA) relieved Pavia and pitched 1.1 innings. Bangs gave up three hits, one walk, and struck out one batter. Senior pitcher Sean Foody (Tappan, NY) relieved Bangs and pitched 1.2 innings. He gave up no hits.

• Graduate pitcher Chaz Powell (Stamford, CT) pitched the eleventh inning and gave up two hits, two runs, and one walk. He picked up his second loss of the season.

• Both teams had seven hits. Post left 13 runners on base, while Franklin Pierce left 10.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS:

• The Ravens play Queens College and Post University one more time on Saturday, March 2, at Hennekens Stadium in Flushing, NY.
