Three Run Seventh Inning Pushes Baseball to 4-2 Victory Over Pace

DURHAM, N.C. - - A three-run seventh inning propelled the Wilmington University baseball team to a 4-2 victory over Pace on Saturday, played at the Durham Athletic Park in North Carolina.

Starter Matt Warrington got the support he needed in the top of the seventh, after tossing six innings while striking out seven batters to go with one run on four hits.

Pace (0-3) loaded the bases with only one out in the bottom of the first inning. The Setters took the lead early in the game with an RBI groundout.

The Wildcats had a runner thrown out at the plate in the second, and left a runner on third in the third, but didn't threaten again in until the top of the seventh.

Jack McDonald started the inning with a walk before Tristan Schoendienst singled to put two runners on. Now in scoring position after a sacrifice bunt, McDonald scored on an infield single by Kory Pritchard, tying the game, 1-1. Now with two outs and runners on second and third, Garrett Quinn stepped in and hit a two-run single into right, giving the Wildcats the lead, 3-1.

Chase Fleming replaced Warrington in the bottom of the seventh and worked around a lead off double to keep the Wildcats in front, 3-1. \Zach Walkers started the top of the eighth off with a homer, giving the Wildcats a much needed insurance run, 4-1.

The Setters got one back in the bottom of the eighth, as a two-out double scored a run to cut the game in half, 4-2.

Alex Krick came on to close out the victory and did just that, shutting the Setters down in order to end the game, 4-2, for his first save of the season.

Kory Pritchard and Tristan Schoendienst had two hits each for the Wildcats while Garrett Quinn led with two RBI. Trevor Adamo hit a triple in the game, finishing 1-for-3.

The Wildcats have one more game in Durham for the weekend, as they will play Mansfield on Sunday afternoon. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park.
