NEWARK, Del. - - A big advantage on the draw control allowed the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team's offense to stay on the attack in a 22-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Bridgeport on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats (9-2, 3-0 CACC) earned more draws than the Purple Knights (6-2, 1-1 CACC), 25-12, being able to stay on the attack.

Bridgeport took a 2-1 lead in the early going, but then the Wildcats scored four straight to open a 5-2 lead with three of the goals coming from Ella Royer. Amelie Gamache scored back-to-back goals to finish the first quarter as the Wildcats took a 7-3 lead into the second frame.

Bridgeport scored three straight to get within 8-6, but then Maddy Bassoff scored the final goal of the half to give the Wildcats the 9-6 lead at the halftime break.

The Purple Knights opened the third quarter with a goal to get to within two goals, but then the Wildcats rattled off three straight goals to regain a five-goal lead, 12-7. The teams traded the next four goals, but then the Wildcats received goals from Alea Javorowsky and Amelie Gamache at the end of the third quarter, opening a 16-9 lead with one quarter to play.

The Wildcats then scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to thwart any idea of a Bridgeport comeback. Bridgeport scored with 6:38 to play to bring the score to 19-11, but then the Wildcats finished off the game with the final three goals to settle on the final score, 22-11.

Four Wildcats had five or more points in the game, led by Alea Javorowsky's 10 points, scoring three goals and adding seven assists. Ella Royer led the game with seven goals while adding an assist, seven draws, and three ground balls. Makenzie Stritzinger scored four goals to go with two assists and nine draws while Amelie Gamache added three goals, two assists, and five draws.
