WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team secured their first win of the season after defeating Jefferson University 4-3, Friday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts.

Laura Marie went undefeated on the day, picking up wins at No.2 doubles and No.1 singles play. Marie partnered with Mariona Franco to defeat their opponents 6-2, but the Firebirds lost the doubles point, heading into singles play with a disadvantage. 

Claudia Bahamon evened the score 1-1, after winning in dominating fashion at the No.5 spot, allowing her partner no more than one point in two sets.  Marie then gave UDC the lead, after fighting through a close 7-5 first set win and cruising to a 6-1 second set victory. 

Freshman Polina Zelentsova, in her debut as a Firebird battled to an impressive 7-5, 6-3 win at the No.2 spot. Célia Bastin sealed the deal with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No.6 to clinch the winning point for UDC.

UDC (1-0) is back in action tomorrow at 1:00pm, taking on Dominican University at the UDC Tennis Courts.
