UB Upsets Dominican In Road Conference Win
Bridgeport defeated Dominican University in New York Wednesday night 67-64.
Orangeburg, N.Y. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team were victorious in their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the year against Dominican University. The Purple Knights beat the Chargers 67-64 in New York in upset fashion. The win improves UB's record to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in CACC play.
The Purple Knights looked to bounce back after two tough losses last week in their first CACC challenge of the season. The Chargers jumped out to a 16-8 first quarter lead before UB put up a dominant second quarter performance to head into halftime with a 36-28 lead. Dominican fought until the very end, coming within three points but Bridgeport won in the end 67-64.
Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) has a stellar night with a game-high in points and rebounds with 18 and 15 respectively. She added three steals, two blocks and two assists to her double double effort.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 10 points with eight rebounds, four blocks and two assists.
Junior Sade Young (Bronx, N.Y.) contributed 12 points, three assists, one rebound and one steal.
Samirah Akinwunmi (Sr., Elmont, N.Y.) chipped in 11 points to add to her two rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Up next, UB will be back at home after a three-game road stretch to take on New Jersey City University on Sunday, December 3rd. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
