Women’s Volleyball Goes The Distance Versus New Haven For Five Set Win
The Purple Knights defeated University of New Haven in five sets on Senior night.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team held their ground against the Chargers of the University of New Haven Monday evening, winning three sets to two. Bridgeport won the opening two sets 27-25 and 25-22 while New Haven took sets three and four 25-15 and 25-17. The Purple Knights won the fifth set in dramatic fashion with a final set score of 21-19 to take the match 3-2. The non-conference win improves UB's overall season record to 21-7.
Bridgeport started the evening by recognizing two seniors and their contributions to the program during their time with the Purple Knights. Those members of the program were Datari Mathis (Grad., Wethersfield, Conn.) and Haley Andrews (Sr., Southington, Conn.).
Hailey Jessen (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the attack once again, shelling out a game-high 25 kills while hitting at .292 percent and adding four digs.
Sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) had another efficient night, accruing a .423 hitting percentage with 12 kills and assisting on five blocks.
The block leader for UB was Junior Madison Jongsma (Sanford, Fla.) with two solo and six assisted blocks at the net.
Right side hitter Datari Mathis added six assisted blocks to her 11 kills and four digs for s stellar senior night outing.
Jaden Drollinger (Jr., Queens Creek, Az.) dished out 54 assists while suppling 14 digs, four assisted blocks, three aces and three kills.
Two back row player hit double-digit digs for UB. Freshman Ella Young (Commerce City, Colo.) supplied 13 digs along with three assists and an ace while Junior Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) registered 12 digs and two assists.
Up next, Bridgeport will be home again, Wednesday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. as they host Dominican University for the last home regular season game of the 2023 season.
