STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Bears women's soccer team opened their 2023 campaign on the road and dropped a, 4-1 decision to the College of Staten Island (CSI). The non-conference opener left Bloomfield with an 0-1 record while the Dolphins moved to 1-0-1 after their second outing of the year.
Senior keeper,
Mia Phillip got the start in goal and kept the Dolphins off the board in the opening stanza. Phillip recorded two saves as the teams went into the halftime break scoreless.
After the break, CSI posted four goals, beginning in the 48
th minute of play. The home team added goals at the 52:08, 58:29 and 59:46, minute marks to put the game out of reach. The Bears offensive attack was led by West Coast native,
Tabitha Wanjiku Mwaura who put two shots on goal in the 2
nd frame with one getting past the Dolphins keeper in the 75
th minute.
Valentina Beltran also put a shot on target for the visiting squad while
Arielle O'Neal (0-1) took over in goal for the final half and picked up six saves.
The Bears will look to regroup in their next outing on Saturday, September 9 when they take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College. The non-conference road battle is scheduled for a 12:00 pm kickoff in Sparkill, NY.
