BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In a second back-and-forth, tight matchup in the span of five days, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team dropped a home contest to Chestnut Hill College by a score of 75-73 on Saturday afternoon. The narrow defeat puts the Purple Knights at 2-2 in the CACC this season (7-8 overall).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Griffins used a 10-0 run in the second half to battle back from a 10-point halftime deficit as they eventually took a 72-67 lead with 3:31 remaining in regulation.
After Bridgeport answered with back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead back at 73-72, Chestnut Hill rattled off four consecutive stops to close out the game. The Purple Knights had one final chance with four seconds remaining but were unable to get a shot off.
Bridgeport held a 10-point lead at halftime after shooting 17-of-29 from the field, including a 5-for-6 clip from three.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
It was yet another balanced afternoon for the Purple Knights as they had 10 different players record at least two points in the game. In fact, Bridgeport's bench outscored Chestnut Hill's bench, 20-10.
The duo of Jayden Iturmendi (18 pts., 4 rebs., 2 assists) and D'Andre Collins (16 pts., 4 rebs., 2 assists, 2 steals) led the way for the home squad with almost identical stat lines as they combined for 34 points and eight rebounds.
Senior Tim Dawson and junior Nick Traill each finished with nine points, while Traill also led the Purple Knights with four assists.
Collectively, Bridgeport poured in 10 three-pointers (23 attempts) and dished out 15 assists (30 made field goals).
