McGREGOR LEADS POST TO FOURTH CONSECUTIVE CACC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
MIDDLETOWN, DE - Post University won its fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship with a dominating performance today at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, Del. After rain postponed Monday's opening round, both rounds of the tournament were played Tuesday. The Eagles opened the day with a first round total of 283 and finished with a 568. Sophomore David McGregor was the individual champion for the second consecutive season with a two-round total of 137 (68, 69). All five Eagles were named to the All-Conference team.
By virtue of winning the conference championship, Post has earned the CACC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division II Northeast Super Regional Tournament, which will be held at the Glade Springs Resort, Cobb Course, in Beckley, W.Va., on May 4-6.
All five Eagles finished in the top 10, as Jamie Blake tied for 10th, Jon Lussier and Gavin Wilson tied for fifth and Lee Wanklyn finished fourth.
Nyack College and Goldey-Beacom College tied for second place with scores of 596, but the Warriors won the tie-breaker because their fifth golfer had a better final round than GBC's. Wilmington finished fourth with a 597 and Caldwell was fifth with a 616.
The CACC postseason awards were also released, and Post's Jamie Blake was named the conference Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year honors went to Goldey-Beacom freshman Tyler Harman, while Lightning head coach John Asbell was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Felician College won the annual Team Sportsmanship Award.
