Softball Defeats Caldwell to Advance to CACC Championship Weekend
The Purple Knights will play third-seeded Goldey-Beacom on Thursday at Wilmington.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first round of the CACC Tournament, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned a 5-1 win over seventh-seeded Caldwell on Saturday. The second-seeded Purple Knights will now advance to Championship Weekend at Wilmington on May 2-4.
A pair of seniors led UB during its latest postseason triumph. Kaite Burawski tossed a complete-game gem in the circle while Angela Oros went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
First on Burawski, the left-hander allowed just four hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work. She struck out 10 in the process to raise her season total to an even 200 (2nd in the CACC).
Burawski has nine games this season in which she has struck out at least 10 batters. She now holds a 14-9 record this season with an ERA of 2.60.
Oros, meanwhile, racked up a home run, two doubles and a single on Saturday. She finished a triple shy of the cycle while her solo home run (5th of season) gave UB a 1-0 edge in the first inning.
Six other Purple Knights joined in with hits in the contest. Meg McFarland went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Sydnee Perreault knocked a fourth-inning double.

The Purple Knights will play third-seeded Goldey-Beacom on Thursday at Wilmington. UB defeated the Lightning twice during the regular season.
