Jackson on Fire Puts Up Career High 33 Points; Firebirds Fall to Georgian Court on the Road

LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to 2-2 on the season after a tough 72-82 loss to Georgian Court University, Saturday afternoon at the GCU Wellness Center. The Lions improved to 2-2.

Latavia Jackson lit up the court with a career high performance securing a double-double off of a game high 33 points and 10 rebounds. She went 13-24 from the field and sunk 2-3 from behind the arc, while also making two steals and a block. Last week's Player of the Week, Destiny Ryles also scored in the double figures with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.

The Firebirds got off to 6-0 start, but the Lions responded with a 9-0 run and rode that lead into the second quarter. With 6:14 left to go in the second, Halia Ellis knocked down a shot from the 3 point line that gave the Firebirds a lead that they brought into the half.

The Lions came out to play in the second half out scoring the Firebirds 43-31, going on a 13-0 run in the last few minutes of the third quarter to take the lead going into the fourth. UDC was left to play catch up the rest opf the way, and was unable to take back the lead resulting in their second loss of the seaon.

GCU outrebounded UDC 49-38 and the edge on second chance points, while making more shots in the paint 40-28. The Firebirds also went 20-33 from the foul line.

Next Up, UDC (2-2, 0-0 ECC) will face off against cross town rival Bowie State University on Wednesday at 5:30 PM, in Bowie, MD.
