Spartans Rally Falls Short in 2-1 Setback to Post

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team saw its furious second half comeback attempt fall short on Tuesday, as Post University took a 2-1 non-conference decision over the maroon and gold at Spartan Field.

STAC falls to 2-11-1 on the season, while Post improves to 3-8-3 on the year.

Ellie Croshaw tallied the first goal of her collegiate career for the Spartans, while Amber McGee and Larissa Blunschli scored a goal apiece for the visiting Eagles. 

In goal, Catalena Robson (0-7-1) stopped two of four shots faced for STAC, with Claire Said (W, 1-0-0) turning away three of four shots to pick up her first win of the campaign for Post.

How it Happened

  • 31st Minute: Off of a corner kick into the box, a Post header was directed to the foot of Hailey McGee at the right post, who then sent a pass to teammate and sister Amber McGee for a shot into the middle of the net past keeper Catalena Robson to make it 1-0 Eagles.
  • 40th Minute: Another corner kick, this one by Tassia Ferreira, was sent into the box where Larissa Bluntschi got her head on the ball and directed it by Robson to double the Post advantage at 2-0.
  • 74th Minute: STAC got on the scoreboard on a free kick that was headed down to the foot of Sarai Rodriguez by a Post defender. Rodriguez slipped a soft pass to Ellie Croshaw for the blast on frame, beating a diving Claire Said at the left post to cut the deficit to 2-1.
