STAC Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Caldwell, 20-6

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team received multigoal efforts from four Spartans, en route to a 20-6 victory over Caldwell University on Friday afternoon at Spartan Field.

STAC climbs back to the .500 mark with the win, improving to 3-3, while Caldwell drops its first contest of the year and moves to 0-1.

Katelyn Cerrato led the Spartans' offense with six goals and two assists, while teammate Hailey Galison tallied six goals on the afternoon. Olivia Cerbo deposited five shots to the back of the Cougars' cage, while also adding a helper. Ella Entress (2 goals) and Arianna Tribble (1 goal, 2 assists) also added to the totals on the scoresheet for the maroon and gold. Goalie Lilah Magenheimer (W, 3-3) started between the pipes for STAC and stopped 6 of 12 shots faced to even her record on the year.

Meanwhile, Caldwell was led by Meghan Korzevinski and Tiana Cipot, who tallied two goals apiece, while Janea Kelty and Brady Kells added a goal each. Goalie Serena Barra (L, 0-1) made 12 saves over three quarters of play, before being replaced by teammate Sarahkate Schneider for the final stanza. Schneider made two stops on six shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • STAC opened the scoring with back-to-back goals from Katelyn Cerrato and Arianna Tribble to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
  • Tiana Cipot answered for the visiting Cougars with a tally to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • However, a pair of Katelyn Cerrato goals in the final three and a half minutes of the stanza not only gave her an early hat-trick, but also put the maroon and gold up by three (4-1) at the end of the opening quarter.
  • The Spartans continued their scoring onslaught with three straight goals to open the second quarter, as Katelyn Cerrato (2) and Hailey Galison would find the back of the net to increase the hosts lead to 7-1 with slighly under 11 minutes still left to play before halftime.
  • Tiana Cipot and Meghan Korzevinski would then strike back with consecutive goals for the Cougars to make it 7-3.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas took over the game with five straight goals courtesy of Olivia Cerbo, Katelyn Cerrato, Ella Entress and Hailey Galison (2) to go up 12-3 at the break.
  • The scoring onslaught continued for the maroon and gold when the teams returned to the field for the third stanza. Three straight strikes from Olivia Cerbo and a Hailey Galison tally put the match out of reach, as STAC increased its lead to 16-3 through 45 minutes of play.
  • In the final frame, the Cougars were able to score on three occasions, with Janea Kelty, Meghan Korzevinski and Brady Kells all putting shots past Lilah Magenheimer. However, the Spartans answered each of those goals and added an additional score, as Hailey Galison (2), Olivia Cerbo and Ella Entress all found the back of the net to close out the scoring and the game in favor of the hosts, 20-6.
