Women's Basketball: Soler Hangs 24 Points as Ravens Power Past Caldwell 71-54

CALDWELL, N.J. (11/18/2023) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball program locked down its third win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 71-54 victory over Caldwell. Anna Badosa Soler led the way for the Ravens after she tallied a game high 24 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens were first to get on the board early in the first quarter and took a 6-0 lead in the early minutes of the game. Chipping away at the deficit, Caldwell caught up to the Ravens and eventually took the 15-13 lead with three minutes left in the first. Trading baskets, the Ravens trailed 17-15 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Scoring in the second quarter mirrored that of the first as the two teams again traded baskets which kept it a close game. With under two minutes left in the half, Franklin Pierce University's Anna Badosa Soler and Leana Heitmann each tallied a free throw which were then matched by a three pointer from Caldwell's Jahnel Lewis bringing the score to 28-28. Soler returned to the charity line with 30 seconds left in the half and hit both shots which gave the Ravens a 30-28 lead heading into half.
  • At halftime, Janessa Gonzalez and Soler led the Ravens in points with 7 and 11 respectively.
  • Three minutes into the second half, Colette Mulderig, Kenzie Sirowich, and Soler pitched in points to give the Ravens a quick nine-point lead.
  • The Raven offense continued to charge forward and closed out the third quarter with a 51-40 lead. Soler who stayed consistent grabbed seven more points, Sara Macary put up six, and Gisela Vazquez Segura rounded out the team's top scorers of the quarter with four points and four rebounds.
  • During the fourth, the Ravens sprinted to the finish line. As the time on the clock went down, Franklin Pierce's lead continued to climb, and the team closed out the game ahead by 17 points and a final score of 71-54.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Anna Badosa Soler was the clear points leader against Caldwell after she went 8-11 from the field, 2-2 from the arc, and 6-11 from the free throw line for a game high 24 points. Soler also tallied a team high 11 rebounds.
  • Though she only clocked 11 minutes, Sara Macary was second in points after she netted nine baskets after she went 4-6 from the field and 1-1 from the free throw line.
  • Kenzie Sirowich and Colette Mulderig both chipped in 8 points and grabbed a combined 18 rebounds.
  • As both teams struggled from the 3-point arc, Franklin Pierce dominated rebounds after the team tallied 51 compared to Caldwell's 30.
  • In total, the game only saw two lead changes as the Ravens controlled much of the momentum and captured the victory.

The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team returns to the court tomorrow Sunday, November 11 to take on Dominican at 2:00 PM at the Hennessy Center in Blauvelt, New York.
