Wildcats and Griffins Play To 1-1 Draw

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Daemen University and Chestnut Hill College played to a 1-1 draw in NCAA Division II women's soccer action tonight at Victory Field on the CHC campus. Daemen moved to 1-3-1 on the year, while the host Griffins are now 2-1-1.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both goals came in the first eight minutes of the game.
  • Daemen opened the scoring just 5:26 into the game when sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) took a feed from freshman Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) and sent a shot from the right flank into the upper left corner of the CHC net. It marked the second goal of the year for Miranto.
  • The Griffins answered just two minutes later when junior Elisabeth Stokes intercepted a clearing pass in the Daemen end and sent the ball to senior Antonia Linus who sent a shot from out front into the upper right corner of the Daemen net.
  • The hosts nearly took a 2-1 lead in the 13th minute, but a shot by senior Rachel Apsley clanged off the crossbar and the rebound was cleared away.
  • Daemen had a chance to take a 2-1 lead late in the first half, but a penalty kick by junior Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) slid just wide of the lower left corner.
  • CHC registered an 11-6 edge in shots in both halves and finished with a 22-12 edge in shots for the game. The hosts posted a 13-8 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.), the reigning East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made a career-high 12 saves. Three of her saves came in the final eight minutes of the game. Freshman Ellie Stratz made seven saves for the Griffins.
GAME NOTES
  • Tonight's contest marked just the second all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Griffins and the first since the 2018 season. Daemen prevailed 6-0 in the first-ever meeting back in 2018.
  • CHC is a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and was picked sixth in the 2023 CACC preseason poll.
  • Diaz and fifth-year senior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) both totaled a team-high three shots for Daemen.
