Women's Lacrosse Earns 19-7 Road Victory At Chestnut Hill
Lafayette Hill, Pa. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team tallied the first five goals and the last seven goals of Wednesday's match, en route to a 19-7 road victory over Chestnut Hill College at Victory Field #1 - Plymouth Whitemarsh.
 
STAC improves to 1-2 on the season, while Chestnut Hill slips to 0-1.
 
Katelyn Cerrato led the Spartans' offense with five goals and four assists the afternoon, while Ella Entress scored four times, Hailey Galison netted three goals and three helpers and Arianna Tribble picked up three goals and two assists. Teammates McKenzie Schlechtweg (2 goals, 1 assist), Olivia Cerbo (1 goal, 1 assists) and Charlotte Luquer (1 goal, 1 assist). also added to the totals on the scoresheet. Goalie Lilah Magenheimer (W, 1-2) got the start between the pipes for the maroon and gold and stopped 8 of 15 shots faced to earn her first collegiate win.
 
Meanwhile, Chestnut Hill was led by Molly Killion, who tallied five goals, while Lauren Sullivan and Nicole George added a goal apiece. Goalie Virginia Perry (L, 0-1) made 21 saves on the day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The visiting Spartans opened the match with five straight goals, as Ella Entress, Arianna Tribble, Katelyn Cerrato (2) and Hailey Galison each found the back of the cage with shots to make it 5-0.
  • Chestnut Hill got on the scoreboard with a Molly Killion tally in the final minute of the frame to cut the deficit to 5-1.
  • Killion quickly got her second goal of the afternoon to open the second stanza to make it a 5-2 game.
  • Consecutive goals by Katelyn Cerrato and Ella Entress then expanded the STAC lead to 7-2 with 11 minutes to play before halftime.
  • The Griffins and Spartans then traded goals, with Lauren Sullivan and Arianna Tribble scoring to keep the Spartans ahead by five at 8-3.
  • Three straight scores by Chestnut Hill narrowed the maroon and gold lead to 8-6 with Molloy Killion (2) and Nicole George putting shots past Lilah Magenheimer.
  • Katelyn Cerrato sent the teams to the halftime break with her fourth goal of the day to make it 9-6 through the first 30 minutes of action.
  • When the teams returned to the field for the third quarter, the frame would be dominated by Spartans scoring, as Katelyn Cerrato, Olivia Cerbo and Ella Entress would account for all of the scoring to put STAC up 12-6.
  • Chestnut Hill would strike back early in the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to five (12-7) on Molly Killion's fifth goal of the match.
  • A seven-goal barrage by St. Thomas Aquinas would put an end to any thoughts of a Griffins rally. Goals by Ella Entress, Hailey Galison (2) Charlotte Luquer, McKenzie Schlechtweg (2) and Arianna Tribble closed out the scoring and made it a 19-7 final.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • STAC outshot Chestnut Hill 53-20 (40-16 on goal) for the game.
  • Arianna Tribble tallied a game-high 11 shots, with six going on net for St. Thomas Aquinas.
  • Tribble gathered six of the Spartans 14 ground balls and also caused two turnovers.
  • STAC won 19 of 27 draw controls on the afternoon, with Arianna Tribble winning seven and Hailey Galison six.
