Ingenito Nets Goal in 88th Minute; Women’s Soccer Draws With Wilmington, 2-2

Wilmington, Del. – A goal scored by sophomore Olivia Ingenito in the final two minutes, brought the Molloy women's soccer back from behind to draw against the Wilmington Wildcats, 2-2, Wednesday evening at WU Athletics Complex. Molloy moves to 1-1-3 on the season, while Wilmington moves to 1-1-2.
 
How it Happened
  • 3:20 into the contest, the first chance came off the foot of freshman Isabella Muro when her shot was saved by Wilmington goalkeeper Mio Nakajima.
  • The home team would generate three opportunities in the next seven minutes of action, firing three shots on target, but senior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian stopped all three attempts to keep the game scoreless.
  • Wilmington continued to try to break through, but the fourth shot of the half was again saved by Kilian.
  • Ingenito created her first chance of the contest in the 32nd minute, but her attempt was also saved.
  • The Lions had one more chance to get on the board in the final 45 seconds of the first half, but graduate student Lauren Marinello had her shot saved to send the game into halftime scoreless.
  • Marinello made the most of her chance in the 54th minute, deflecting a ball sent into the box from senior Sarah Tappeto to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • Wilmington did not wait long to find the equalizer, scoring a goal ten minutes later to knot the contest at one.
  • The Wildcats continued to hunker down on defense and make the most of its opportunities in the 80th minute. Following a shot off the crossbar, a rebound goal from Wilmington defender Maria Leguizamon put the home team ahead, 2-1.
  • Less than a minute later, junior Natalia Piotrowski tried to tie the game, but her header attempt was wide right of target.
  • After winning a corner, graduate student Caitlin Kennedy sent the ball into the back post that was headed by Piotrowski and deflected into the back of the net by Ingenito to tie the game at two and send the Lions home with a draw.

  • Ingenito netted her second goal of the season while totaling three shots, two coming on goal.
  • Marinello scored her first goal of the season.
  • Kennedy, Tappeto, and Piotrowski dished out an assist each.
  • In goal, Kilian made four saves.
Up Next
The Lions return home to begin East Coast Conference play Saturday (Sept. 16) as they take on Saint Thomas Aquinas in the second game of a doubleheader. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
