Tim Dawson's Late Hoop Lifts Men's Basketball To A 75-73 Road Triumph Over Alliance
Purple Knights Rally From Being Nine Down With Just Over 10 Minutes To Play
Jersey City, N.J.-Junior Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.) scored the winning basket with just under six seconds to play when he was credited with two points when his layup was called good after an Alliance University player slapped the backboard to lift the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to a comeback, 75-73, road Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win on Thursday night. UB trailed by nine points, 60-51, with 10:36 to play in the game before rallying for the victory.
Dawson, who scored 14 of 16 points on the night in the second half, went 6-of-7 from the field including hitting two three-point shots for the game, scored his game-winner after Isayas Aris tied the game at 73-73 for the hosts with 33 seconds to go when he split two free throws.
With the win, the Purple Knights are now 6-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Alliance is now 6-9 overall and 0-4 in the CACC.
Junior Joshua Dennis (Brooklyn, N.Y) led four Purple Knights in double-figure scoring against Alliance with a game-high 19 points.
Senior Malcolm Moye (Windsor, Conn.) netted 15 points for the winners, 10 of which came in the final 20 minutes of action, and junior D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) playing in his home state, notched his first double-double of this season with 11 points and a game-best 11 rebounds.
Up next, the UB men will host a New Year's Eve matinee in Hubbell Gym on Saturday taking on CACC opponent Wilmington (Del.) University at 3:00 p.m.
