STAC Women's Volleyball Sweeps Caldwell in Halloween Night Victory

Sparkill, N.Y. - It was a night for witches, ghouls and goblins, and inside of Aquinas Hall Gym the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team cast a spell of its own on visiting Caldwell University...well for three sets anyway. The Spartans snapped a six match losing streak with a straight sets non-conference victory over the Cougars on Tuesday evening.

STAC improves to 4-13 on the season, while Caldwell slips to 3-19.

How it Happened

The Spartans recorded double-digit kills in all three sets (14-13-16) with the Cougars for a .300 attack percentage to secure the 3-0 shutout win.

Junior right side Jaizahir Marrero-George (Carolina, Puerto Rico) paced the Spartans offense with 16 kills, while outside hitter freshman Alana Rider (Hyde Park, N.Y.) had nine. sJunior setter Lea Venghaus (Muenster, Germany) and Marrero George recorded three services aces apiece. 

Venghaus also tallied 35 assists (11.67 assists/set) and five digs (1.67 digs/set).

Freshman middle blocker Lorielys Ruiz (Camuy, Puerto Rico) totaled seven kills, two service aces and three digs in the match.

Junior libero/defensive specialist Aurivette Santos Bonilla (Villalba, Puerto Rico) secured a team-high 14 digs, while freshman middle hitter Lauren Fields (Tampa, Fla.) played solid defense, registering four of STAC's 10 block assists.

Freshman middle hitter/right side Elizabeth Salmon (San Marcos, Texas) tallied a pair of kills, service aces, digs and blocks in Tuesday's Halloween triumph.
