Bridgeport Bested By Bentley
The Purple Knights were beaten by the Falcons in Massachusetts, Tuesday evening.
Waltham, Mass. – The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team traveled North to face off with the Falcons of Bentley University. The hosts shot an impressive 48.3% from three-point range and 58.8% from the floor to pave the way for a 19-point, 102-83 win over the Purple Knights. The non-conference loss drops UB's overall season record to 5-6.
The sharp-shooting Falcons came out firing, making 58.8% of their three-point shots and going 20-for-31 from the floor for a 64.5% field goal percentage. This advantage gave Bentley a 55-41 lead going into the halftime break.
Bridgeport's answer was depth, gaining a whopping 42 points from the bench, 27 better than the Falcons' 15. This was enough to stay within striking distance in the second have scoring as they fell five points behind, 42-47 over the last 20 minutes, but 19 points over the full 40 minutes for a final score of 102-83.
UB was led by Joshua Denis (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) as he came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points as he went 8-of-14 from the floor and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. He added two assists, two steals and one rebound.
Junior Caleb Jacobs (Harlem, N.Y.) had an extremely efficient night as he went 4-for-5 from the floor and 1-for-1 from three-point territory as he produced 11 points and a team best six rebounds along with one steal, one block and an assist.
Jayden Iturmendi (Rs-Sr., York, Pa.) provided a team-high four assists to add to his 10 points, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Additionally, SeniorD'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) tallied 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Up next, the Purple Knights will get back to conference action as they host Caldwell University on Saturday, December 30th at 3:00 p.m. for a CACC clash.
