Purple Knights Knockoff Caldwell At Home
Bridgeport stayed perfect in the CACC with a tight victory over Caldwell prior to the New Year.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team took their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win in as many chances with a home victory over the Caldwell University Cougars Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights dominated the boards with 15 more rebounds than the Cougars and scoring eight more points from the paint. The 60-57 win improves UB's season record to 3-9 overall and 2-0 in the CACC.
Saturday's showdown with Caldwell tested Bridgeport's ability to adapt. The Purple Knights struggled from three-point range, shooting 18.9% from distance compared to the Cougars who made 28.0% from beyond the arc.
The difference was made for the hosts as they tore down an impressive 47 rebounds, 15 better than Caldwell's 32. This helped to translate to 20 second chance points and 22 points from the paint. UB's bench also contributed 19 points while the Cougar's reserves only managed four.
The winning effort was spearheaded by Stephanie McBride (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) as she led the game with 19 rebounds and added 13 points, one steal and one block.
Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) led all scoring with 18 points as she shot 9-of-13 from the floor while adding 13 rebounds, one assist, one steal and a block.
Senior Tariah Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench and provided a game-high five assists and chipped in six points and one steal.
Up next, UB will come back in 2024 when the travel to Rutherford, N.J. to take on CACC opponent Felician University at 6:00 p.m. at the Falcons' Job Gymnasium.
