Firebirds Soar Past Lions to Improve to 5-0 on the Season

WASHINGTON DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team defeated Georgian Court University 83-50, Tuesday evening at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. They improve to 5-0 on the season while the Lions fall to 0-5.

Tori Williams led all scorers with 23 points going 10-13 from the field and a perfect 3-3 at the charity stripe. Destiny Ryles was the other double-figure scorer with 19 points, nine assists, seven steals and five rebounds. Aiyana Ellis also pulled down a game-high ten rebounds.

The Firebirds got rolling early scoring 32 points in the opening quarter while holding the Lions to just 18. Their lead began to steadily increase as GCU was unable to keep up. 

The third quarter saw the home team shoot at 53.3% from the field, their best of the game. Charme Lilly played her first minutes as a Firebird scoring six points off of 50% shooting from the field. Freshmen players, Kristian Harris and Jada Bouknight also got some quality minutes scoring 5 and 6 points. Bouknight also pulled down six rebounds while making three steals and two blocks.

The Firebirds shot at 39.4% from the field while holding the Lions to 29.4%. They forced 38 turnovers and were able to convert 36 points off those turnovers. The Lions outrebounnded UDC 54-42. 

Up next, UDC (5-0) is back at home on Sunday, taking on Southern Connecticut State at 1:00pm.
