Women’s Soccer Topped by Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. – The Molloy women's soccer team fell to the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport, 2-0, Wednesday evening at Knights Field. The Lions move to 2-2-3 on the campaign, while the Purple Knights improve to 2-2-2.
 
How it Happened
  • The opening 10 minutes belonged to the road team, as the Lions won three corners and generated two scoring chances.
  • Junior Natalia Piotrowski sent her header attempt over the bar and freshman Victoria Bustamante had her shot blocked.
  • The Purple Knights made the most of its first chance in the 12th minute, netting a goal on its first shot of the evening to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Bridgeport continued to put the pressure on the Lions backline in the 19th minute when one shot was put wide of target and a second shot was blocked.
  • The home team did not stop with its pressure, holding Molloy without a shot and totaling three more shots over the course of the remainder of the half. Graduate student Shannon Kilian took all three shots and denied the opportunities in the 23rd, 26th, and 37th minute keeping the contest at 1-0 heading into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, senior Erin Fogarty tallied the first shot on goal for the Lions 47 seconds into the second half, but her chance was saved by Bridgeport goalkeeper Anita Lopez.
  • The cardinal and white looked to tie the contest in the 51st minute when sophomore Mikaela Barriga had a chance but sent it high of the crossbar.
  • The home team added its insurance goal in the 57th minute off the foot of Brooke Boucher to extend its lead, 2-0.
  • In the 72nd minute, junior Alessandra Borsellino created a chance to cut the lead in half, but her opportunity was saved.
  • Four minutes later, graduate student Caitlin Kennedy tried to get the Lions on the scoreboard, but again her shot was saved to keep the road team off the scoreboard.
  • Sophomore Olivia Ingenito had the final two chances of the evening in the 81st and 89th minute, but one chance was saved and the other was wide of target as the Purple Knights would go on to win, 2-0.
Top Performances
  • Ingenito and Piotrowski topped the Lions with two shots.
  • Borsellino, Kennedy, and Fogarty tallied one shot on goal each.
  • In goal, Kilian made three saves and freshman Elyse Muñoz stopped a pair of shots.
Up Next
Molloy will continue its road trip on Friday (Sept. 22) as they will travel to play the Lions of Lincoln University. The ECC matchup is slated for 1:00 p.m.
