Firebirds Fall to Tigers on the Road in Non-Conference Match Up

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to Holy Family University 66-77 in their first loss of the season. The Firebirds fell to 2-1 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 2-1.

Latavia Jackson led all scorers with 23 points and just slightly missed out on a double-double, grabbing a team high nine rebourds. Shanell Haskins came off the bench to register a season high 17 points and teammate Kensley Benjamin rounded out double-figure scoring  for UDC with 11 points. 

The Tigers shot at 44.8% while holding the Firebirds to 36.1% and had the edge in rebounds 48-37.

The first quarter saw the visiting UDC team lead by as much as six points. HFU slowly chipped away at the deficit, and eventually took the lead, that they would bring into half time. Both teams were neck and neck coming off the break, scoring exactly 33 points a piece in the second half. The eleven point deficit the Tigers opened up in the first half turned out to be the deciding factor of the game, which resulted in the Firebirds first loss of the season. 

Next up, UDC (2-1, 0-0 ECC) will head to New Jersey to face off against Georgian Court on Sunday.
