Campbell Posts Double-Double in Firebirds Season Opener Loss to Alliance University

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's mens basketball team opened their season with a tough 72-79 loss to Alliance University, Monday evening at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex Gymnasium. Three Firebirds Scored in the double figures, including Micah Campbell who posted a double-double off of 15 rebounds and 12 points while also making a game-high six blocks. Michael Aiken Jr came off the bench to lead the Firebirds with 16 points and was followed by teammate Tevin Curtis who posted 13 points. UDC made their way onto the scoreboard first after Freshman Eric Morgan Jr's made layup at the 19:27 mark. Majority of the half saw a series of lead changes and a couple ties but Alliance would open up a eight point lead going into the break. The Firebirds struggled offensively in the first half shooting at 37.5%, while Alliance shot at 50%. The visiting team managed to open up their deficit to as much as 17 points in the second half. The home team would not go out with a fight as they rallied back in the last few minutes cutting the deficit down to just three but unfortunately it wasn't enough as AU came away with the victory. Next up, UDC (0-1, 0-0) will host Goldey-Beacom Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM.
